On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, I got the opportunity to deliver a webinar with Senior Developer Evangelist Vidhan Bhonsle & MEA Business Developer Manager Mohamed Abdeljalil from HERE Technologies titled ‘Learn how to integrate location element in Node-RED’ which was hosted by Senior Developer Advocate Upkar Lidder from the IBM San Francisco City Team on Crowdcast.

There were a total of 42 attendees including developers and students from across the world.

Mohamed started off with a welcome note and introducing the series and IoT solutions and challenges. Then he started with introducing Node-RED, where Mohamed and I had a conversation about what is Node-RED and what are its components. Then I presented the first part of the Hands-on section, which was about building an interactive map with Node-RED to stream the latest tweets in real-time around any topic.

Streaming Tweets on a map

To build this, you will need an IBM Cloud account, HERE Technologies Developer account, and Twitter Developer account. It was actually a fun project to work on and an easy way to introduce Node-RED capabilities in an innovative way. The flow would look something like this:

If you are interested in trying this tutorial, you can find it in this GitHub repo.

In the second part of the Hands-on, Vidhan explained in detail about HERE Technologies API and how to use it in your projects on postman and how to create a map using HERE Technologies API with JavaScript. Also, he explained different HERE Technologies APIs and how to use them.

Later on, we got to the closing remarks, which marked the end of our webinar series with HERE Technologies. I am pleased that I got the opportunity to be part of and work with amazing people.

The replays of the series are available at IBM Developer Crowdcast.
